Why a second opinion can be helpful
Fertility treatment often involves many examinations, decisions, and different treatment options. Especially when treatment has been ongoing for some time, you have several attempts behind you, or an important next step is pending, the desire may arise to have your own situation reviewed from an additional specialist perspective.
Common questions and uncertainties
Many women and couples come to us with similar questions:
- Why has it not worked so far?
- Does the current treatment strategy still make sense for our situation?
- Are there further diagnostic or therapeutic options?
- What options do we have for the next steps?
- How can our personal chances be realistically assessed?
A second opinion does not mean questioning your previous treatment. Rather, it offers the opportunity to review findings, the course of treatment, and further options from an additional specialist perspective. Sometimes new approaches emerge – and sometimes it confirms that the path taken so far continues to make sense.

What a second opinion for fertility can offer you
A second opinion offers the opportunity to review your previous treatment calmly from an additional specialist perspective. The goal is to categorize connections in an understandable way, clarify open questions, and discuss possible next steps together.
- Assessment of your previous fertility treatment
- Joint review of existing findings, diagnostics, and therapy steps
- Discussion of possible alternatives or further treatment options
- Realistic assessment of your individual chances and possibilities
- More orientation and security for upcoming decisions
The goal is to provide you with a sound, clear medical basis so that you can decide on your next steps well-informed and at your own pace.

What Our Patients Say
Frequently asked questions about second opinions for fertility
When does a second opinion for fertility make sense?
A second opinion can be useful if questions remain unanswered, several treatments are behind you, or an important decision about the next steps is pending. Even if you simply want more security regarding your current treatment path, an additional specialist perspective can be helpful.
How does a second opinion for fertility work?
In a detailed conversation, we discuss your previous fertility history, review existing findings and treatment courses, and clarify your open questions. We then provide a medical assessment of your previous treatment and discuss with you whether the path taken still appears sensible or what other options may be considered.
Do I have to change fertility clinics for a second opinion?
No. A second opinion is initially an additional specialist assessment and does not commit you to a change. If further diagnostic or therapeutic steps result from the consultation, you can of course also carry these out with us and continue further treatment in our center. Whether you wish to continue your previous treatment path or switch to us is entirely your decision, made in your own time.
What documents are required for a second opinion?
For a sound assessment, we need as many relevant findings and documents as possible regarding your previous examinations and treatments. This includes, in particular, laboratory results, medical reports, and treatment or stimulation plans, as well as embryology reports in the case of previous IVF or ICSI treatments.
Please send us your documents, if possible, before your appointment. This allows us to carefully prepare for your previous treatment course and take sufficient time in the consultation for your individual questions and possible next steps.
How much does a second opinion for fertility cost?
For a detailed second opinion, we take sufficient time for the careful review of your previous findings and a personal, detailed medical consultation. The costs are usually between approx. 250 and 320 euros, depending on the scope and required examinations. During an on-site appointment, an ultrasound examination can also be performed if medically useful. Further examinations, such as laboratory analyses, are charged separately according to effort. Billing is carried out according to the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ).
