Close collaboration between medical and laboratory teams

Many crucial steps of your fertility treatment take place in the laboratory. At our center, a highly specialized laboratory team and your treating physicians work together directly – from the examination of your hormone levels and sperm samples to fertilization, embryo culture, and cryopreservation. Our in-house cleanroom IVF laboratory provides a particularly controlled, quality-tested environment for this.

Our Laboratory Areas at a Glance

  • IVF Laboratory

In our cleanroom IVF laboratory, we perform fertilization using IVF or ICSI and monitor the development of embryos until transfer or cryopreservation.

  • Hormone Laboratory

Here, we determine the hormone levels important for your treatment. The results support diagnostics, the assessment of your cycle, and the individual management of hormone treatment.

  • Andrology Laboratory

We examine sperm quality and prepare sperm samples for insemination, IVF, or ICSI. The findings are incorporated into the selection of the appropriate treatment method.

  • Clearly Defined Workflows

From sample reception to cryopreservation, our workflows follow established standards. Responsibilities and individual work steps are clearly regulated.

  • Understandable Information

We explain the results of the laboratory tests and the essential steps of your treatment. We also keep you informed about the fertilization and further development of your embryos.

  • Direct Professional Coordination

Our physicians, embryologists, and laboratory specialists work closely together. Continuous professional exchange and joint discussions enable quick coordination and individually tailored treatment decisions.

What happens in our laboratories during your treatment?

From initial diagnostics to cryopreservation, our specialized laboratories seamlessly integrate. Close collaboration and efficient processes create optimal conditions for your fertility treatment.

  1. Diagnostics as a Foundation

In the hormone and andrology laboratories, we analyze blood and sperm samples as well as important hormone levels. The results form the basis for your individualized treatment plan.

  2. Preparation for Treatment

For insemination, IVF, or ICSI, sperm samples are carefully prepared. For IVF or ICSI, our embryologists also assess the retrieved oocytes and prepare them for fertilization.

  3. Fertilization and Embryo Culture

In our cleanroom IVF laboratory, oocytes and prepared sperm are brought together during IVF. In ICSI, a single sperm is selected and directly injected into a mature oocyte. After fertilization, our embryologists monitor the development of the embryos and assess them at defined time points.

  4. Cryopreservation

Suitable oocytes, fertilized oocytes, or embryos can be cryopreserved for a later treatment – for example, for another embryo transfer or as part of social freezing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a fertility center have several specialized laboratories?

Each laboratory handles a different part of your fertility treatment. In the diagnostic laboratory, blood samples and hormone levels are analyzed, among other things, and in the andrology laboratory, sperm samples are examined and prepared. In the IVF laboratory, our embryologists monitor fertilization, as well as the development and cryopreservation of oocytes and embryos. Through the close collaboration of the specialized departments, all work steps seamlessly integrate.

Are blood and sperm samples examined directly by you?

Yes. Many diagnostic examinations, as well as spermiograms and the preparation of sperm samples, are carried out directly in our own laboratories. This enables close collaboration and coordination between the laboratory and the treating physicians. Should special examinations be required in individual cases, we work with selected specialized laboratories.

What happens to my oocytes or embryos in the IVF laboratory?

After egg retrieval, the retrieved oocytes are assessed in the IVF laboratory and – depending on the treatment method – combined with the prepared sperm. Subsequently, our embryologists monitor the development of the embryos under controlled conditions and assess them at defined time points.

How are oocytes and embryos safely stored?

After cryopreservation, oocytes, fertilized oocytes, and embryos are stored in special nitrogen containers in our own cryobank. The storage conditions are continuously monitored. An alarm system reports deviations so that our specialized staff can react promptly. Only authorized personnel have access to the cryobank. Clear labeling and careful documentation of all storage and retrieval steps enable reliable assignment and traceability.

What does an embryologist actually do?

Embryologists specialize in working with oocytes, sperm, and embryos. They oversee central steps of an IVF or ICSI treatment – from assessing oocytes and fertilization to observing embryonic development and cryopreservation.
