Psychotherapeutic Support on Your Path to Parenthood
An unfulfilled desire to have children and fertility treatment can be emotionally challenging. Hope and confidence often alternate with uncertainty, disappointments, or worries during this time.
For many, it is helpful to be able to talk about thoughts, feelings, and concerns with an independent person during this period. Psychological support can help to contextualize stressful situations and ease the process of fertility treatment. Studies show that early psychosocial support can help reduce stress.
As a fertility center, we consider mental well-being an important component of holistic care. Therefore, we are happy to assist you in finding suitable psychological or psychotherapeutic contacts from our network, should you need them.

When Psychological Support Can Be Beneficial
Our Practical Experience
Our experience shows that psychological support can be a valuable aid for many people during their fertility journey. This impression is also supported by scientific studies: psychosocial support can promote emotional well-being and facilitate coping with fertility treatment. A medical psychotherapist combines psychotherapeutic expertise with a deep understanding of the particular challenges of reproductive medicine. The appropriate support depends on your personal situation and needs.
Possible Forms of Psychological Support
Long-term psychotherapy can help recognize emotional patterns, sustainably reduce burdens, and create a stable inner foundation for the fertility journey. It offers space to process complex feelings, facilitate decisions, and strengthen emotional well-being in the long term.
Targeted techniques from stress regulation and mindfulness help reduce inner tension and bring more calm into daily life during the fertility journey. Resilience coaching provides tools to face challenges more stably and build psychological strength.
The fertility journey can place significant demands on partnerships. Couple therapy sessions help improve communication, understand different needs, and find common ways to deal with burdens. This strengthens the relationship and ensures the treatment is a shared effort.
Exchange within a guided group can be relieving, as those affected realize they are not alone in their experiences. Under professional guidance, a safe space is created to share feelings, learn from each other, and gain new perspectives.
Together Through the Fertility Journey
An unfulfilled desire to have children affects a couple in different ways. But even if medical treatment usually places a greater physical strain on one person, both embark on this path together. During the fertility journey, mutual support and good communication can therefore be particularly valuable.

What Our Patients Say
Frequently Asked Questions about Psychological Support for Fertility
How does an unfulfilled desire to have children affect the psyche?
An unfulfilled desire to have children can be emotionally very distressing, triggering feelings such as grief, anger, guilt, or hopelessness. Many affected individuals experience strong inner pressure, social withdrawal, or tension in their partnership. With increasing duration of fertility treatment, the risk of depressive moods or anxieties often rises.
When is psychological support for fertility beneficial?
Psychological support is always beneficial when emotional distress is perceived as strong or persistent. This can be the case at the very beginning of the fertility journey, but also after miscarriages, unsuccessful treatment cycles, or difficult decisions. Early support can help reduce stress and better cope with challenges.
Can psychological support help even before fertility treatment?
Yes. Psychological support can be beneficial even before starting fertility treatment. It helps to reflect on one’s desire to have children, cope with fears and uncertainties, and prepare for the fertility journey. Early support can contribute to entering further planning or treatment with greater emotional strength.
Do I need to be currently undergoing fertility treatment?
No, psychological support can be utilized independently of ongoing fertility treatment. It can be helpful for preparation, during treatment, or in phases of reorientation. Even without medical treatment, it offers space for relief and clarity.
Can my partner participate in the sessions?
Yes, if desired, sessions can take place together as couple’s counseling. Many couples find it helpful to reflect on burdens together and develop new ways of interacting. Individual joint appointments are also possible.
Who covers the costs for psychological support?
Psychological support is provided at the private fertility center Die Kinderwunschärztin in Munich and is billed privately according to the German Fee Schedule for Physicians (GOÄ). Whether and to what extent costs are covered depends on your individual insurance contract. Private health insurance companies often reimburse costs partially or fully, while statutory health insurance usually does not cover these services.
