Your Own Path to Your Desired Child
More and more women are consciously choosing to realize their desire for a child independently of a partnership. Modern reproductive medicine today offers single women various medically safe and carefully supported options to become pregnant using verified sperm donation.
Which treatment path makes sense for you depends, among other factors, on your age, your cycle, your ovarian reserve, and the patency of your fallopian tubes. With a regular cycle and ovulation, insemination without hormonal support is often possible. With irregular or absent cycles, gentle, individually dosed hormonal stimulation may make sense. If insemination is medically unlikely to succeed, if several treatments have not resulted in pregnancy, or if other factors are present, IVF treatment may be an option.
Together we discuss your personal circumstances, your wishes, and the various treatment options. You will receive an honest assessment of your chances and clear guidance for the next steps.
Common Questions and Uncertainties:
- What options do I have to become pregnant without a partner?
- Can I pursue this path alone?
- Is treatment with sperm donation possible in Germany?
- How do I choose a suitable sperm bank and donor?
- What legal framework applies to sperm donation?
- Which treatment is suitable for me?
- How do I cope with emotional stress and societal pressure?
- What support is available on the path to treatment?

Recommended Steps—Your Path to Pregnancy as a Single Woman
With structured diagnostics, individual counseling, and careful treatment planning, we accompany you step by step on your path to solo motherhood.
-
Initial Consultation
In the initial consultation, we get to know your personal situation and answer your open questions about fertility, sperm donation, and the various treatment options. Often an ultrasound examination and initial hormone analysis are already performed.
Make an appointment -
Individual Diagnostics
In the next step, we examine your individual prerequisites for pregnancy. Depending on the situation, this includes cycle diagnostics, hormone analyses, and, if necessary, verification of fallopian tube patency. These results form the basis for choosing the appropriate treatment.
-
Selection of Sperm Donation
Together we discuss the selection of a suitable sperm bank and donor or—if desired—the prerequisites for treatment with a known donor.
-
Personal Treatment Plan
Based on all findings, we then create an individual treatment plan and explain clearly which treatment—such as insemination or IVF treatment—offers you the best prospects for success.
-
Support on Your Journey
We plan your treatment individually and accompany you step by step through the entire treatment. With insemination, donor sperm is introduced directly into the uterus at the time of ovulation.
Legal Framework for Single Women Seeking Fertility Treatment
If you decide as a single woman to pursue fertility treatment with sperm donation, we also accompany you with the legal and organizational questions that are part of this path. In a personal consultation, we explain clearly what framework conditions apply and what is important before beginning treatment.
You do not need an additional guarantor for treatment with us. What is important to us is rather to think together with you about the future and to keep good provision for your child in view. We discuss calmly with you which options make sense for this.
Psychosocial counseling can also be valuable support. It offers space for personal thoughts and questions—for example, about later informing your child about his or her origin story, dealing with family and social environment, or the emotional aspects on your path to motherhood.

What Our Patients Say
Frequently Asked Questions from Single Women Seeking Fertility Treatment
Is sperm donation possible for single women?
Yes. Even as a single woman, you can fulfill your desire for a child with the help of sperm donation. We advise you personally on the medical options and accompany you through all steps—from selecting a suitable sperm bank or known donor to individual planning of your treatment. With sperm donation through a sperm bank, the donor’s origin is documented so that the child can later exercise his or her right to knowledge of genetic origin.
What are the costs of fertility treatment as a single woman?
The costs depend on the chosen treatment and your personal situation. They typically consist of the costs for medical treatment—for example, insemination or IVF—any necessary medications, and the costs for sperm donation.
Since statutory health insurance generally does not cover fertility treatment for single women, the costs are usually borne by the patient. Before beginning treatment, we inform you transparently about the expected costs. You can also find a detailed overview in our “Costs of Fertility Treatment” section.
How do you choose a sperm donor?
You can choose the sperm donor yourself. We work with renowned sperm banks in Germany and Denmark that provide you with various information about the donors. Depending on the sperm bank, this may include, for example, physical characteristics such as hair and eye color or height, as well as information about education, interests, and personal traits. This allows you to make your selection according to your personal preferences.
All donors are carefully examined in advance according to applicable medical and legal requirements. This includes, among other things, testing for certain infectious diseases, a detailed personal and family medical history, and—depending on the sperm bank—genetic testing. Sperm quality is also comprehensively assessed.
If you wish to choose sperm donation from a donor known to you, this path may also be possible. We discuss personally with you what medical, legal, and organizational prerequisites must be met.
What legal requirements apply to sperm donation for single women?
Before beginning treatment, we discuss the legal framework with you and explain clearly what is important for your personal path. An additional guarantor is not required for treatment with us.
What is important to us is rather that good provision is made for your child. This may include, for example, a power of attorney or advance directive. We discuss calmly with you which options make sense for your personal situation.
What are the success rates of fertility treatment for single women?
Whether you enter treatment as a single woman has no inherent effect on your medical success rates. What matters most are your age, your individual medical circumstances, and the chosen treatment.
For example, the pregnancy rate at age 30 with insemination using sperm donation may be around 25% per cycle, and with IVF treatment over 40%. At age 40, the chances are significantly lower—with insemination, for example, around 5–8%, and with IVF approximately 20–25%.
These figures serve as guidance. After personal diagnostics, we can better assess your individual situation and together choose the treatment that offers you the best prospects for success.
